EQUITY Law Firm took part in the academic and practical conference entitled ‘Lawfare: The Use of Law as a Weapon in War. Legal Mechanisms to Counter Russian Aggression’

Сonference organised by the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine with the support of EQUITY Law Firm.

EQUITY’s Managing Partner, Oleh Malinevskyi, initiated and co-moderated the event. In his speech, he emphasised the need for a coordinated system involving state bodies, the academic and civil society communities, integrated at the international level. “This system must be coordinated either with similar institutions at the state level or with international institutions,” noted Oleh Malinevskyi.


The conference was attended by leading Ukrainian academics, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Members of the Ukrainian Parliament, judges of the Supreme Court, prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, representatives of research institutions and higher education establishments, doctoral and postgraduate students, as well as representatives of civil society organisations.

For the first time at this level, the concept of legal warfare as a comprehensive system was presented and thoroughly discussed: one that encompasses all forms of the use of law to achieve strategic advantages in war. And, crucially, not only in a general historical context, but specifically in relation to the armed aggression against Ukraine.

This was a step towards shaping the state’s legal strategy in a war that is being fought not only on the battlefield, but also in the courts, international institutions and the information sphere.
