EQUITY Launches the Yaroslav Zeikan Opening Statement Competition!

EQUITY announces the launch of the Yaroslav Zeikan Opening Statement Competition!

This competition is dedicated to the Day of Advocacy and Yaroslav Pavlovich Zeikan's birthday. He was a lawyer for whom the power of words, logic, and speech structure was a true art.

It is our tribute to this master of advocacy who formed a school of professional excellence and left generations of lawyers with an example of impeccable advocacy style. 

How will the competition take place?

1. Preliminary selection.

Participants will register for the competition and submit an essay on the topic, "For and against the opening statement in criminal proceedings." Based on the review of applications, teams will receive confirmation of participation and the competition plot. 

2. Preparation of speeches.

Each team or participant will prepare two opening statements for each plot: one for the prosecution and one for the defense, based on the provided circumstances. 

3. Competition day: The competition will closely resemble a real trial.

Before each round, the judges will change one of the case circumstances. Participants will then have 20 minutes to adapt their speeches to the new circumstances and deliver them in a courtroom format. 

Details:

December 17: Qualifying rounds and semifinals.

Participants will receive two storylines in advance for each stage.

December 19: Competition finals and awards ceremony.

Finalists will receive the final plot on December 17 after the finalists have been determined.  

The prize fund for the competition is 50,000 UAH. 

Most importantly, however, this is an opportunity to experience and continue the tradition of legal expertise left by Yaroslav Zeikan.
