An attorney should think like a philosopher and speak like a simple person - the main message of the speech by Yaroslav Zeikan, an EQUITY partner, who told LHS audience about the fundamentals of judicial eloquence within the framework of the Trial Advocacy School.

They say that in the past it was possible to win the case in court with the help of a single "powerful" word, but those who believe that this can not be done today are also mistaken", - the speaker began the lecture. According to him, it often happens that an indictment act contains thousands of pages, for example, the indictment against Yulia Tymoshenko at that earlier time.

During the lecture, Mr. Zeikan cited examples of successful defense by lawyers of the distant past and our present day of their defendants in the courts due to ability to speak convincingly. Also, the partner told about the desirable content of the procedural documents drawn up by lawyers and that he was convinced that the propositions in the documents should be written simply and comprehensibly.

As far as oral speech is concerned, Yaroslav Zeikan said: "The closing argument is the summary of the consideration of the case and, therefore, you must speak in a way that the participants present in the court room could feel uniqueness of the case", and emphasized that the lawyer should speak close to the fable of the case and without meaningless phrases.

Our thanks to the Legal High School and all the participants for the interesting conversation!
