Appeals of Prosecution and Defense in Vasyl Khmeliuk’s Murder Case Scheduled for Court Session

We draw attention of journalists and the public to the fact that the court session for consideration of the appeals of the prosecution and the defense of the suspect in Vasyl Khmeliuk’s murder case has been scheduled for January 24, at 13:30 in the Kyiv Court of Appeal, 2a Solomianska street.

The victim, Vasyl Khmeliuk’s wife, Alina Khmeliuk will be present at the court session.

We hope for high quality of the national justice, as both the principle of irreversibility of criminal liability and existing practice in setting the amount of bail, as well as the possibility of applying bail in similar criminal proceedings are contrary to the current situation with the suspect.

As the representatives of the wife of the murdered, we support the position of the prosecutor regarding the impossibility to apply alternative restraint measure in the form of bail, since the crime led to the death of the person (para 2, part 4, Art.183 of CPC of Ukraine) and we will facilitate making only legal and fair decision at the session.
