Hanna Yudkivska was elected as Chair-Rapporteur of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention

Hanna Yudkivska, partner at EQUITY, participated in the 102nd session of the Working Group  on Arbitrary Detention.

The group adopted 37 decisions in cases involving 98 people from 24 countries, making this spring session the longest and one of the most intense.  Behind each of these decisions are real individuals who have experienced injustice and human rights violations. These cases serve as a reminder of the importance of the daily struggle for justice and dignity.

Ms. Yudkivska and the working group held important meetings with representatives of UN member states and international students. They also participated in discussions with the UN Committee Against Torture.Effective approaches to human rights protection emerge from the collaboration of experts from various disciplines. 

A special milestone was the election of Hanna Yudkivska as Chair-Rapporteur of the Working Group.  «Taking the helm of a ship in a storm is both responsible and exciting. The crisis that all UN agencies are experiencing today is obvious. We must somehow avoid reefs and stay on course to protect human rights, no matter how complicated international relations are.» - Hanna comments.
