Adaptive narratives
What are the key results of 2023 for the legal services market? What trends have become decisive? How effectively has the legal services market been able to adapt to work under martial law?
"In general, the legal market has adapted to the war. The Armed Forces of Ukraine deserve the greatest credit for this, as they have made life in Kyiv relatively safe, since the capital is the locomotive of the state's business activity," says Oleg.
Oleg Malinevskiy calls the sharp and excessive growth of the state's influence the most crucial market trend. "First, the state, as a result of various sanctions, nationalizations, bank failures, is becoming a monopolist in many sectors of the economy: finance, energy, military-industrial complex, etc. Secondly, the state's policy of redistribution of property and change of elites is often accompanied by gross interference with the right to peaceful enjoyment of property and personal freedom and inviolability," explains Oleg Malinevskiy, "This adds to the work of lawyers, creating new sustainable practice niches. Since national courts are not always able to protect a person from other state institutions, clients defending their rights go to the international level - the ECHR, investment arbitration, and foreign politics. Thus, the market is expanding by attracting new international players from other jurisdictions and even quasi-legal professions (recognized international experts, lobbyists, etc.). By the way, the latter is also inherent in the practice of war damage compensation.
